Racist drama 'The Help' on Netflix gets backlash

With  2011's 'The Help' surging on Netflix amid the racism incident in the US, the flick receives backlash from some members of the African American community. 

The flick hitting #1 as the most-watched drama on Netflix centers on a white Mississippi woman (Emma Stone) interviewing black women about their time serving white families.

This comes amid ongoing protests against police brutality following the killing of George Floyd with some members of the African American community slashing the movie theme and urging people to watch other films to learn about racism in America.

 "I'm so sorry but the last thing ... [you] need to be watching are bootleg 'racial reconciliation' movies like 'The Help'," film and TV critic Rebecca Theodore-Vachon tweeted. "If you need a list of Black films, Black film critics are on here happy to suggest some really good ones.

The critics suggested movies such as '13th', 'When They See Us' and 'Just Mercy' (currently streaming for free)."It wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard," actress Viola Davis who appeared in the flick said of the 2011 movie.
